Firestorm Engulfs LA: Paradise Lost, Devastation Unfolds

The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires have left a trail of destruction, with entire neighborhoods reduced to ashes. Dozens of casualties have been reported, as residents faced the agonizing choice of fleeing or staying behind.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) estimates that over 12,300 structures have been damaged or destroyed in the Palisades and Eaton fires.

Palisades Fire: This blaze, the largest in terms of area burned, has claimed iconic landmarks. The renowned Malibu restaurant, Moonshadows, was completely incinerated, along with the Palisades Branch Library. Palisades Charter High School suffered significant damage.

Eaton Fire: Though smaller in perimeter, the Eaton Fire is suspected to have caused more structural losses. The impact on the Altadena neighborhood has been particularly severe.

Historical Context: The Palisades and Eaton fires have already secured their place among the most destructive in Los Angeles County history. They currently rank third and fourth on the list of California’s most devastating wildfires since 1991.
