Hundreds of Animals Perish in Dallas Shopping Center Fire
Dallas, TX – A devastating fire erupted at Plaza Latina Bazaar in Northwest Dallas on Friday morning, tragically resulting in the deaths of over 500 animals housed in a pet shop within the complex.
According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, 579 animals, primarily small birds, perished from smoke inhalation. 1Other deceased animals included chickens, hamsters, two dogs, and two cats.
While three individuals inside the building escaped safely due to the activation of the fire alarm and sprinkler system, the fire caused significant damage to the structure, including a partial roof collapse.
Plaza Latina Bazaar, which houses over 50 businesses, ranging from restaurants and shops to a tattoo parlor and insurance agency, announced its temporary closure on social media.
“It is a regrettable situation that we had this morning,” the shopping center shared on Facebook. “We ask for your prayers for all the families who work here.” Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the 911 call around 9:12 a.m. and battled the blaze for approximately two hours. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
