New Orleans Truck Attack Classified as Terrorism: 14 Dead, 30 Injured – Shocking Details Emerge
The FBI has officially classified the tragic New Orleans truck attack as an act of terrorism, following the driver’s admission that he acted alone in a deliberate assault on New Year’s revelers. The attacker, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, drove a pickup truck into a crowd early Wednesday, killing 14 people and injuring about 30 others.
Hours before the attack, Jabbar posted videos on social media expressing his support for the Islamic State group and his intent to harm others, President Joe Biden confirmed.
Victims Remembered
Officials have not yet released the names of those killed, but families and friends are beginning to share their memories and stories. Among the victims is Kareem Badawi, 18, who had recently completed his first semester at the University of Alabama, where he was studying mechanical engineering.
“Kareem was a bright, energetic young man,” his father, Belal Badawi, said. “He had just started his life, making straight A’s in college, and he was excited about the future.”
Badawi recalled his son’s love for building friendships and excelling both academically and athletically. “He was a social guy who enjoyed playing football and other sports. He had his whole life ahead of him.”
“He was an honors student, and everyone who knew him loved him. I lost my son—he didn’t deserve this,” Badawi said tearfully. “His life ended so abruptly, with no reason. No one should suffer like this.”
Ongoing Investigation
The attack has shaken the New Orleans community, with survivors and families struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. About 30 people remain injured, some in critical condition.
The FBI continues to investigate Jabbar’s motives and connections, focusing on his social media activity and any links to extremist groups. Authorities have assured the public that all possible leads are being followed.
As the city mourns, there is a strong call for increased security measures and support for victims and their families. The nation grieves the loss of innocent lives, while seeking justice for those affected by this horrific act of terrorism.
