Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe, has experienced a significant reduction in height of more than two meters (6.5 ft) over the past two years.

French researchers revealed this during a press conference held in Chamonix, located in the French Alps

The most recent measurement of Mont Blanc's height stands at 4,805.59 meters (15,766.37 ft), down from its measurement of 4,807.81 meters (15,773.65 ft) in September 2021

These measurements are conducted every two years by geographical experts to monitor alterations in the mountain's height.

The task of explaining this phenomenon now falls upon climatologists, glaciologists, and other scientists who will analyze the collected data

The diminishing height of Mont Blanc raises concerns amid global apprehensions about melting glaciers

Mont Blanc's official height has been consistently decreasing over the past decade

In 2007, the recorded height of Mont Blanc was 4,810.90 meters (15,783.79 ft).

Switzerland's glaciers have also experienced significant melting, resulting in a 10% decrease in overall volume over the last two years, following record losses in 2022

Monitoring organizations such as GLAMOS are closely observing glacier changes to gain insights into the broader implications of climate change
