A small, twin-engine plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in Fairview, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, on Saturday

The crash resulted in the deaths of two people on board the aircraft and one person on the ground

The plane, a Cessna 421C, crashed after experiencing mechanical issues, according to the Gresham Fire Department

Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis confirmed that the pilot, a passenger, and a resident of one of the townhouses were killed

The identities of the deceased have not been released

The crash occurred near Troutdale Airport around 10:20 a.m. local time, hitting a power pole or tower and causing a brush fire

The aircraft then crashed into a row of townhomes, igniting fires in two buildings and spreading to a fourth

At least five families have been displaced, and a sixth condo is under evaluation for damage

Two transmission lines from Portland General Electric were reported down following the crash

Debris from the crash is scattered across multiple areas, and the scene is being secured by the sheriff's office to assist with the FAA investigation
